Radio Ink’s Hispanic Radio Conference is proud to announce that the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award will be presented this year to multi-Grammy and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Emilio Estefan. The award ceremony will cap off the first day of the conference, which is being presented March 25-26 at the Intercontinental at Doral in Miami. Two-times-Grammy-nominated BMI Latin artist Elsten Torres will perform a musical tribute to Estefan as part of the presentation. The Medallas ceremony will be followed by an opening reception.
In making the announcement, Deborah Parenti, publisher of Radio Ink, said, “The Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes an individual whose service and commitment to humanity raise the bar and inspires others to follow. No individual represents that characteristic more than Emilio Estefan. Over the years, his philanthropic work has encompassed multiple causes, including education, health, and cultural development.”
Estefan said, “One of the most important aspects of my career is the relationships that we have created within the radio industry for so many years. I feel honored to receive this recognition from all the programmers and DJs that I am fortunate to call friends. Thank you all for helping us spread our music and culture worldwide.”
